Apple’s final version of iOS 15 won’t be released until the fall, but anyone with a compatible device can test it out now with the first public beta. The annual update includes significant improvements to FaceTime, an improved Do Not Disturb feature with updated notifications called Focus Mode, and a deeper introduction of artificial intelligence to the iPhone.
The software is available through Apple’s public beta testing program. In addition to iOS 15 for the iPhone, Apple has also launched the first public betas of iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8.
The iOS 15 public beta doesn’t require an incredibly new device. Compatible is the iPhone 6s or later, which means all iPhones from the last six years. Similarly, iPadOS 15 is compatible with the iPad Air 2 and later models.

At this point, go to the Settings app and select the field under your Apple ID labeled “Profile Uploaded.” Then on the “Profile Setup” screen, click the “Set” button in the upper right corner.
You can then go to Settings > General > Software Update, and it should show that the iOS 15 beta is available for installation. After that, the process will be the same as when you install any other iOS update. Click Download and Install and wait for it to do its thing. Your phone will reboot when the update is ready to install.
Apple usually releases several rounds of public betas before releasing the final version in September. While even the first public betas are usually relatively stable, some third-party apps may not work, and you may encounter system bugs while Apple fixes the bugs. So you should proceed with caution or wait until the fall for a reliable iOS 15 release.
