Report: 14% of decision makers feel that all SaaS subscriptions benefit their business

Only a handful of UK startups are getting the most out of their software subscriptions, according to research by SaaS management software provider Cledara.

The report, which surveyed 251 financial managers, IT managers and executive leaders of UK companies with 20 to 500 employees, revealed that only 14% of respondents believe that all of their SaaS subscriptions add value to their business. The vast majority (86%) think that some of their SaaS subscriptions could add more value than they are currently delivering.

Meanwhile, more than half (51%) have canceled the purchase of a SaaS subscription in the last six months, while almost two-thirds (63%) think that the lack of process around software subscriptions has had a negative impact on your company culture.

Negative impacts on culture highlighted in the report include deteriorating employment relationships, increased workloads and a lack of power, all of which lead to decreased job satisfaction and increased risk of employee turnover.

This drainage of corporate culture worsens as companies grow and become more complicated to manage. This increase in complexity can be seen in a gap between the perception of how many SaaS subscriptions companies think they have and the reality.

According to the report, although companies think they have an average of 66 SaaS subscriptions, almost three in five (59%) think their company uses more software subscriptions than they or senior management know about, estimating an average of 93 additional subscriptions.

This misfit between perception and reality highlights the need for a centralized management system for SaaS, something that organizations are still working on. The research found that 52% of respondents are considering or implementing a SaaS management system, while 33% already have a centralized SaaS process system.

The survey was conducted among 251 IT managers, finance managers and executive leaders involved in making business software purchasing decisions, in companies with 20-500 employees and at least one SaaS subscription in the UK.
