Windows IT Management Company PDQ.com announced the acquisition of SimpleMDM, an Apple device management company that uses an intuitive interface in the cloud. Financial details of the deal were not released.

The acquisition takes PDQ.com into new territory: software management for Mac and iOS. With its existing Windows-only capabilities, the agreement positions PDQ.com to become an efficient and comprehensive systems management solution.

Keeping machines up-to-date is critical to their optimal performance. Inventories must be maintained in conjunction with the applications that companies deploy, the version updates they perform, and the patches they manage. Also, an update should be reflected on all machines, no matter how many there are. PDQ.com, prior to the SimpleMDM acquisition, could only do this for Windows.

SimpleMDM covers the entire spectrum of Apple’s systems management. Device enrollment and account setup are straightforward, the company says, and it promises that a support engineer will always be available within 30 minutes.

Adding Apple Device Management through Acquisition

PDQ.com already has a strategy on how to use SimpleMDM’s capabilities. According to CEO Dan Cook, the combination of these two entities will enhance PDQ’s existing relationships with systems administrators to keep “all types of devices healthy and up-to-date.” The entire SimpleMDM ecosystem, including its employees, customers, and products, will become part of PDQ. Such a holistic acquisition, Cook said, will accelerate the growth of PDQ.com.

PDQ’s Windows software deployment and inventory reporting capabilities have two highly regarded software management platforms running in approximately 19,000 organizations: PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory. PDQ solutions cover the full spectrum of business application configuration and work with both start-ups and multinational corporations.

Organizations that use PDQ services to keep their machines up to date include the University of Utah, NASA, Coca-Cola, BMW, HBO, 3M, and others. PDQ aims to make managing its solutions as convenient as possible; Users can download pre-built packages, target specific machines, and deploy them according to their schedules.

SimpleMDM’s Apple Device Management works much the same as PDQ.com on Windows; the only difference is that it only works for Apple devices. The software works just as efficiently, SimpleMDM says, no matter how many devices are deployed.

SimpleMDM’s customer base of 3,000 targets macOS, tvOS, and iOS devices. Its best known clients include Rosetta Stone, Rip Curl, FedEx, Simplehuman, Deloitte, Discovery, and Weyerhaeuser.
