Smart Clock 2

It was easy to fall in love with the cute Lenovo Smart Clock, a gadget with a small screen and Google Assistant support perfect for the bedside table, and now Lenovo has released an updated sequel. It doesn’t just have a new design, the Lenovo Smart Clock 2 comes with an additional feature: a Wireless Charging Base for your phone, which increases its compactness.

The wireless charging base attaches to the bottom of the Smart Clock 2, freeing up space on the side of the clock to put your phone down and let it charge overnight. While Lenovo has added a wireless charging dock, it hasn’t forgotten that not all phones have wireless charging and has left the USB Type-A port on the back of the dock for those who need to charge their phone overnight with a cable.

Cleverly, Lenovo has integrated a soft, ambient nightlight into the section directly below the smartwatch, which can be turned on or off with a simple swipe of the screen, rather than disturbing someone in the room with a voice command. This complements the cool new design, highlighted by the location of the speaker under the screen, which is accentuated by the fabric-covered case. It comes in gray, blue or black.

The 4-inch LCD screen on the front is angled and over a pair of 1.5-inch 3-watt front-facing speakers as well as a far-field microphone. This device will never be a powerful audio device, but it’s perfect for use in the bedroom or anywhere else with limited space where most will use it for voice communication or an alarm clock. Google Assistant is ready to do all the usual voice commands.

Lenovo goes big on Android tablets, and we mean really big

Lenovo has priced the Smart Clock 2 at €90, which translates to about $108, making it significantly more expensive than the original $50 Smart Clock. Lenovo says the wireless charging dock is optional, so the Smart Clock 2 is expected to be available at a lower price without it. The release date will be in August, but pricing and availability in the U.S. have yet to be confirmed. We’ll update the information when we get it.
