Spotify Miniplayer

Facebook is launching a new Spotify miniplayer that lets you listen to full-length songs and podcasts within its app.

If you love sharing your favorite Spotify tunes or podcast episodes with your friends, Facebook has built a new miniplayer integrated within its app that will let you listen to entire songs – not just previews. And the best of all? You don’t have to leave Facebook to do so.

The feature is available on iOS and Android, and the track you’re listening to even continues playing even when you close Facebook.

Among other things, the feature is meant to improve discovery, user experience, and engagement and keep people on Facebook, of course. For people who share a lot of music from Spotify to Facebook, the new feature means that they can easily share music with their friends.

For artists, the feature boosts discovery, giving them the ability to reach new audiences on Facebook – and have people listen to their music with minimal effort – i.e., no more switching between apps.

How to Launch the Spotify Miniplayer in Facebook

  1. Tap the “Play” button on the song you, your friend, family member, or favorite creator shared from Spotify to their Facebook News Feed.
  2. The first time you’re using the miniplayer, you’ll see a consent dialog open—click on “Connect” to continue.
  3. If you’re logged in to Spotify, the apps will automatically switch, and playback will start from within the Spotify app. (If you’re not logged in, you will be prompted to do so.)
  4. Spotify keeps playing even if you keep scrolling down your News Feed, but you’ll have control over playback options so you can pause or dismiss the miniplayer.

The Spotify miniplayer in Facebook is now rolling out to Spotify Premium users in 27 markets, including Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, Thailand, Uruguay, and the U.S.

Spotify Free users also get the same experience via shuffle mode but with ads from Spotify, of course.
