In The Meantime‘ by Alessia Cara – Album Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

With her new album, ‘In The Meantime,’ Alessia Cara is red-hot and on top form. The new album is a thriller from the start, and it doesn’t let up as it proceeds, with plenty of suspense.

The new record has 18 tracks and is jam-packed with goodies! It begins with a brief ‘Unboxing Intro,’ which distinguishes the album and fills us with a tremendous sense of delight, like unpacking an Amazon delivery! It wonderfully transitions into ‘Box In The Ocean,’ and keeping with the box motif, Alessia opens up about being different. Her worst dread is growing old and not being able to push the envelope.

Goosebumps Up The Back Of The Neck

After five tracks, we reach the wonderful ‘Shapeshifter.’ Alessia’s voice, like with all of the album’s tracks, sends goosebumps up the back of the neck. Her tone is excellent, and her distinct timbre sheds a beautiful light on her. The lugs come across ‘Somebody Else’ about halfway through the album. It’s a pop anthem with a happy tempo that’s hard to ignore once it leaps out of the speakers. However, the storey is a paradox, as Alessia expresses her loneliness with heartfelt emotion.

‘Voice In My Head’ grips with enthusiasm near the album’s end, adopting a hip-hop flavour that lends even more flair to the record’s ambience. With its top-notch charisma, ‘Apartment Song’ sums up the album and leaves us yearning to hit replay.
