A striking new Revolver look: Because it thinks differently

Revolver has a new edgy and very distinctive look. To create it, the production company went to one of the world’s most admired creatives, Berlin artist and designer, Eike König, at HORT.

The brief for Revolver’s new visual identity was to move away from the similarity of look between commercial production companies using new typeforms that are expressive in entertaining ways.

The result is based on Metafont technology, starting with a series of 10 new type systems, used in random order across the visual communication to “reflect the diversity and democracy of the Revolver brand”.

“We wanted to shake things up, to show off our difference and underline the fact that we are never resting on what we’ve done before.  And even though it’s incredibly obvious, our digital presence on a website is so fundamentally functional for us. It’s where our agency partners and clients interact with what we can offer and Its where we can get our foot in the door of a project” stated Michael Ritchie, Revolver managing director and co-owner.

To that end, the website has been completely redesigned and expanded to ensure each visit is unique. Every time you visit, you will see new content. The website contains more than 300 films, each experience is randomised and it is now possible to create purpose-built showreels within the site itself.

“Now, the entire roster is shuffled each visit, as is each director’s work, so you get to see another side to their capability.  Then you can find the work that you like from that director and easily make your own reel of their work, a reel that you feel best represents the potential project”

The website echoes the new identity’s unique approach to typographic experimentation which underlines Revolver’s determination to continue exploring how stories are told.

“Most importantly, on a practical level it’s more director facing, more director forward, but with the Revolver brand showing its strength behind,” Ritchie added.
